Parachute Regiment Lodge 9315

Islington Sea Cadets Ride a Wave of Support from London Freemasons

One of the oldest secular social and charitable organisations in the world, modern Freemasonry’s roots lie in the traditions of the medieval stonemasons who built our castles and cathedrals…

The lodge has held several social events such as witnessing the Tower of London Keys ceremony a lady’s festival at a hotel usually outside of London that provides opportunity for our families to enjoy the company that these types of events provide. Importantly we maintain links with the regiment and serving soldiers.

Delve into the rich traditions of Freemasonry as we gather to celebrate our shared values and principles

WHERE WE MEET

Our meetings are held on the 1st Saturday of March, June, September and December, at 60 Great Queen Street, London WC2B 5AZ. they usually start at 11am thus providing members ample time to travel to London to join the meetings.  The June meeting is the installation meeting.

The Parachute Regiment Lodge was consecrated on 5th June 1989. Though named for our Regiment the decision was taken not to restrict membership to serving or former members, though the majority do fit that criteria. Our membership is drawn from a wide range of military, security and civilian backgrounds who all adopt our ethos, to be the best in all that we do…

Engage in enlightening discussions, partake in meaningful rituals, and forge lasting connections with fellow brethren

A £10,000 grant from London Freemasons supports Islington Sea Cadets to reopen the doors after 12 years, providing the community with the support to help young people into responsible adulthood through the development of strong values and high standards of personal conduct.

Islington Sea Cadets was delighted to be awarded a grant from the London Freemasons. This grant will be used to support the refurbishment of the property from which the unit operates, allowing them to replace critical infrastructure and create improvements to the property.  The funding comes at a critical time in the project to reopen the unit, which had been closed for 12 years during a very extensive renovation which  included new roofs, solar panels, heating, electrics and much more.  The grant allows the completion of the ground floor allowing the unit to welcome Islington Sea Cadets back in and parade from their own building for the first time in 12 years.

The charity's plan for the unit is very long term with the expectation that this refurbishment will serve the young people of Islington and the wider area, for many decades into the future.  The charity however still needs funding to be able to open their remaining two floors and are actively seeking further financial support to complete this project.

Islington Sea Cadets are a charity youth group that aim to help young people towards responsible adulthood by encouraging valuable personal attributes and high standards of conduct, using a nautical theme based on the Royal Navy.

Jennifer McCavour, Unit Chairperson said: ”this funding has come at a critical time in our project to reopen the unit. The grant allows us to complete renovations on the ground floor and open the building to cadets. We are so pleased and grateful to all of our supporters for enabling us to welcome cadets back. It's a very special thing to see our cadets' pride in their new home.”

Paul King, London Freemasons said: “We are delighted to support Islington Sea Cadets as they set sail on their journey to create an environment that supports your people by instilling strong values and high standards of personal conduct”.
